Situated in the heart of Manchester University’s Fallowfield Campus.

The Firs traces its history back to 1887, when the house and grounds were bequeathed by Sir Joseph Whitworth. The site is home to the Firs Environmental Research Station and the Manchester University’s Living Plant Collection, which includes ‘The Ranges’. Here, several different environmental biomes have been created containing many tropical plants and ferns. There is also a moss house and a collection of hardy outdoor ferns.
