Mission
We’re delighted to announce that the Exotic Fern Group is now a registered charity. This is an exciting milestone for EFG, but it doesn’t change who we are or what we do. Rather, our charitable status formalises and strengthens the work we have already been doing to advance education, share knowledge and support the conservation of exotic ferns.
Our charitable objectives reflect our existing commitment to the study, cultivation, taxonomy, ecology and conservation of exotic ferns, as well as promoting ethical and sustainable cultivation, propagation and documentation. We’ll continue bringing together enthusiasts, growers, researchers and public collections to share knowledge and help conserve these remarkable plants.
Over the coming months, we’ll be refining our website and updating our governance and policy documents to better reflect our charitable objectives and new status. Our commitment to making our digital resources freely available to everyone remains unchanged.

The Exotic Fern Group is a charity that educates the public about tropical, subtropical and indoor ferns, and helps conserve them through ethical, collaborative growing. We bring together people who share a passion for these unique plants, offering opportunities to connect, learn and grow together.
Community membership is free and open to anyone. Members receive regular newsletters, and join our online lectures and our visits to private and public fern collections. Our fern and spore exchange schemes help keep rare species in cultivation.
The charity is committed to supporting public botanical gardens that feature exotic ferns, advocating for both diversity and specialisation within their collections. We actively promote the cultivation of ferns as houseplants. We recognise the importance of preserving and documenting private and public fern collections across the UK and worldwide.
