About the event

The Indonesian Plant Trade with Fraser Cook.

Fraser Cook is a PhD researcher, award-winning scientific explorer, botanist and conservationist based in Indonesia. His research focuses on the plant trade, conducting population and habitat assessments in flooded forests, deep jungles, and rocky terrains. He examines the economic and cultural impacts of plant hunters and resellers. The value chain illustrates how downstream markets exploit upstream actors, while plant attributes are influenced by market participants, which can confuse collectors with the multitude of plant labels available. Fraser will explain how ecological and biodiversity assessments, along with indicator plants such as ferns, shape habitat suitability for target species. He also shares how he regularly checks plant stocks in nurseries and online to identify wild-sourced material and provides some helpful tips.

If you are interested in giving a talk or lecture on ferns please contact matthew@exoticferngroup.org.
