About the event
Head Gardener, Rob Wilson, will show us around the gardens at the Mount Stewart estate. The National Trust garden in Northern Ireland has a mild, temperate maritime climate, but its unique feature is a special microclimate created by Strangford Lough, making it warmer, less frosty, and protected from harsh winds and sea spray, allowing tender plants to thrive. We will also have a chance to look around their interesting collection of ferns that includes several species of tree ferns growing outside, plus some unusual species such as Thyrsopteris elegans, Lophosoria quadripinnata and some species of Blechnum. An excellent opportunity to meet other fern enthusiasts and ask questions.
We will spend two to three hours exploring the ferns and then you will be free to look around the gardens at your leisure. Normal entrance prices to Mount Stewart will be payable at the gate on the day (approximately £16 per adult).
